COL Todd Book

Chief of Staff, USASMDC

COL Todd Book was commissioned into the Infantry as a second lieutenant in 1998 after graduating from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

After completing initial training, he was assigned to 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division. Other Infantry assignments included 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division and 4th Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division. In 2008, following his selection as an FA40 space operations officer, COL Book’s initial assignment was to the space support element for the 82nd Airborne Division. Other space operations assignments included research director to the U.S. Military Academy; and at USASMDC as the executive officer to the commanding general; chief for the Systems Integration Division (Hypersonics, Directed Energy and Space Systems) in the Technical Center; director for the Systems Engineering Directorate in the Technical Center; and deputy director for the Technical Center.

COL Book’s military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Infantry Captain’s Career Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Space Operations Officer Qualification Course, Space 200, Space 300 and Jumpmaster School.

His civilian education includes a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University; a Master of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; a master’s degree in astronautical engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology; and a doctorate in aerospace engineering from Purdue University.

COL Book’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal (two oak leaf clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (three oak leaf clusters ), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (three oak leaf clusters), Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Award (one oak leaf cluster), and the Army Superior Unit Award. He earned the Senior Parachutist Badge, Army Master Space Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. His foreign awards include the Venezuelan and Chilean Parachutist Badges.
