Technical Center

The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command Technical Center supports the joint warfighter by providing science, technology, and test and evaluation expertise to enable warfighter dominance today and in the future. As part of the Army Science and Technology enterprise, the Technical Center contributes to the current fight and enables the next generation to prevail in conflicts to come. The Technical Center focuses on three essential tasks: executing science and technology, research and development, and test and evaluation; managing and operating the Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site; and conducting space operations and space domain awareness.

The Technical Center contributes to the success of the warfighter and joint force in four main core competencies and technical capabilities: Directed Energy, Space Integration & Interdiction, Test & Evaluation, and Strategic Missile Defeat.

RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY

The Research and Technology Directorate executes research, demonstrates, and transitions critical electromagnetic and photonic technologies to ensure capability overmatch in Space and High Altitude and Integrated Air and Missile Defense. The USASMDC Technical Center STEM Internship Program is a summer research internship ranging from 8 to 10 weeks offering real-world experiences in critical defense technologies and creates opportunities for potential careers in the space and missile industry. Technical Center STEM Student Employment Program (SSEP)

The Technical Center SSEP provides internships to students pursuing bachelor’s or advanced degrees in a STEM course of study at an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) institution of higher education who are willing to accept the reward of challenging scientific and engineering positions.

DoD Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service (SFS)

The DoD SMART SFS Program offers scholarships to undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students who excel in STEM fields. While in school, students will receive full tuition, monthly stipends, health insurance and book allowances, as well as summer internships that range from 8 to 12 weeks. Students are also provided opportunities to continue their research in Department of Defense civil service roles following graduation. DoD Historical Black Colleges and Universities/Minority-Serving Institutions (HBCU/MI) Summer Research Internship Program

The DoD HBCU/MI Summer Research Internship Program is a paid, 10-week summer research program offered to current students and recent graduates who studied STEM disciplines at HBCUs/MIs. The program is designed to give HBCU/MI students an opportunity to explore their STEM career interests through personal mentorship by a DoD STEM professional, gain an inside perspective on the operations of DoD, and conduct research relevant to the defense mission in a DoD state-of-the-art research facility. DoD College Acquisition Internship Program (DCAIP)

DCAIP is a paid, 10-week summer internship that provides college students with real-world exposure to DoD acquisition workforce career opportunities. The program welcomes full-time second- and third-year students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Interns receive hands-on, practical experience in analysis, research, report writing, oral briefings, policy development, program analysis and computer applications. CyberCorps: Scholarship for Service

The CyberCorps Scholarship for Service program is designed to recruit and train the next generation of information technology professionals, industrial control system security professionals and security managers to meet the needs of the cybersecurity mission for federal, state, local and tribal governments. This program provides scholarships for up to three years of support for cybersecurity undergraduate and graduate (MS or PhD) education. In return for their scholarships, recipients must work for the U.S. government after graduation in a position related to cybersecurity for a period equal to the length of the scholarship. Test Resource Management Center (TRMC) STEM Internship Program

The TRMC STEM Internship Program provides paid, summer internships to current full-time enrolled college students (sophomores, juniors, and graduate students) majoring in STEM disciplines. The internship consists of work assignments designed to acclimate interns to the fundamentals and concepts of Test and Evaluation within the DoD.
