Houston, Texas - Army astronauts Col. Frank Rubio and Col. Anne McClain meet with U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command leaders, Oct. 23, prior to McClain’s second launch into space on March 14. SMDC team members honor the Army’s active-duty astronauts May 5 on National Astronaut Day, which has been observed since 2017. McClain, Rubio and Col. Andrew “Drew” Morgan are the only active-duty astronauts in the Army. Rubio serves as the NASA Detachment’s branch chief in Houston, McClain currently serves approximately 150 miles above the Earth aboard the International Space Station, and Morgan serves as the U.S. Army Garrison Kwajalein Atoll commander.
