Timothy F. Bishop

Director, Space and Missile Defense Center of Excellence

Mr. Timothy F. Bishop, appointed to the senior executive service in January 2019, serves as the director of the Space and Missile Defense Center of Excellence in the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command. His career includes professional leadership experience in a variety of government acquisition positions involving the development, testing, production, fielding, sustainment, and life cycle support of major simulation, training and instrumentation systems.

Mr. Bishop is responsible for space and strategic missile defense doctrine and training, concept development, decision support, the Army Capability Managers for Space and High Altitude and Strategic Missile Defense, and Army space personnel development. He is the executive agent responsible for Army space operations officers (FA40).

His previous senior executive position was as the deputy program executive officer for the Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) where he managed a portfolio of 268 programs, executing a $3 billion annual budget, and more than 335,000 training devices in 19 foreign countries and 386 sites worldwide.

He graduated from the University of Alabama – Huntsville with a Bachelor of Science in electrical and computer engineering, and he holds a Master of Science in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Bishop’s awards and recognition include the Superior Civilian Service Award from Installation Management Command – Europe; Top Ten Outstanding Personnel of the Year from Army Test and Evaluation Command; and the Global War on Terrorism Medal awarded by the Department of Defense.
