COL Stevenson L. Reed

Col. Stevenson L. Reed assumed command of the U.S. Army Kwajalein
Atoll/Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Test Site on July 11, 2006.
Col. Reed was born in Wando, S.C., and graduated from Western Kentucky
University in 1982, with a bachelor’s of science degree in physical
education. A Distinguished Military Science Graduate, he received a
regular Army commission into Air Defense Artillery, with an initial
assignment in 3rd Battalion (Airborne), 4th Air Defense Artillery, 82nd
Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.
In December 1986, after completing his Captain Career Course, he was
assigned to 2nd Battalion, 59th Air Defense Artillery, 1st Armored
Division, Ansbach, Germany. He served as assistant S-3, battalion motor
officer, and trainer controller CTC, 7th ATC. Following his command, he
was assigned to Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C., August 1990, where
he served as an assistant professor of Military Science and
training/operations officer. During this period, he earned a master’s of
education degree from University of South Carolina. He departed Wofford
College in 1993, and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th ADA, Fort Bliss,
Texas, where he served as S-3 and executive officer prior to attending
Command and General Staff College. In 1996, he was assigned to the
United States Army Europe, Office of Defense Cooperation, Turkey, United
States European Command, where he served as an air defense and missile
officer. He completed his assignment in ODC-Turkey in September 1998,
and was assigned to Headquarters, First United States Army in Atlanta,
Ga., where he served as chief of Force Structure Division. Upon
completing his assignment at Headquarters, First United States Army in
July 2000, he was assigned as professor of Military Science for
Headquarters, 5th Brigade, 1st Region (ROTC), Fort Bragg, with duty at
Saint Augustine’s College, Raleigh, N.C. From August 2002 through August
2004, Col. Reed served as the battalion commander, 3rd Battalion, 62nd
Air Defense Artillery, Fort Drum, N.Y. On Aug. 18, 2004, he assumed the
position of director for the Air Defense Artillery Test Directorate,
U.S. Army Operational Test Command, Fort Bliss.
His awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service
Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, the
Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement
Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Master Parachutist badge and the
Pathfinder badge.
